Remember how the king looked just before he croaked? His secret weapon to his plumb stature was his many indulgences including the deep fried sandwich named after him. The Elvis sandwich as it eventually became known was Elvis’ favorite treat and it included deep frying a peanut butter sandwich on white bread. For this culinary delight, Elvis liked to replace the more traditional meat patty with sliced banana. To finish it up, the whole two slices of white bread, peanut butter, and banana slices would be pan-fried in melted butter. According to the Presley Family Cookbook (which verifies that this sandwich was indeed enjoyed by the king,) Elvis some times will include bacon in the mix. And that is the Elvis sandwich.

Thank you! Thank you very much!

If you want to look for something similar, it’s a mix of mangos, peaches, pineapples and passion fruits. I also used a small can of spicy Thai chili, a bit of cheddar, green lettuce and a tortilla wrap. Just mix everything together in the wrap and enjoy.

This is a sandwich I found in Stefano Faita’s book. It’s simple, good and very original. You will need a big eggplant and cut thick slices lengthwise. Soak them in olive oil and grill them in a pan. Add the prosciutto, the cheese and let the cheese melt. The recipe calls for Fontina cheese, but I used Emmental.

It is very tasty but very messy to eat. Perhaps I cooked the eggplant too much because the slices were soft and they fell apart when I started eating. I finished it with a fork and a knife.

Starbucks recently announced that they are going to stop selling hot breakfast sandwiches in the fall of 2008. Apparently, the smell of cheese, bacon, and eggs is driving coffee drinking customers away. Howard D. Schultz, the company’s chairman and chief executive said,

In short, the scent of the warm sandwiches interferes with the coffee aroma in our stores

In general, Starbucks has fallen in to some hard times having difficulties improving profits and this is one of many more moves to come in an effort to improve the situation and bring customers back.

If you ask me their sandwiches were actually overpriced; I never understood why anybody would waster their money on a Starbucks breakfast sandwich when the same store was selling a large variety of cheaper and tastier baked goods. I know I won’t miss their warm breakfast sandwiches. Will you?

This is my blackened chicken sandwich with melted Cheddar cheese on ciabatta. First, I used the same Lilydale chicken breast from my Honey Mustard Chicken with Camembert . Second, you will need cajun spice. You can find cajun mix at your grocery or you can make your own. Personally, I love this one . I use it with chicken, seafood and veggies.

You start by warming a pan over medium heat. Melt a slice of butter and add a few strips of chicken. Sautee the chicken on each side then sprinkle with the cajun mix. Stir the chicken until it’s fully coated and cook until it is nice and brown. Gather all the chicken at the center of the pan and sprinkle grated Cheddar cheese on top of it. Wait until the cheese is melted. Set aside.

Slice the ciabatta in two and toast it in the oven. Pour a bit of infused olive oil on one side and add a bit of lettuce and a few onion rings. With a spatula, scoop the chicken and put it on top and voila!

This is a really good sandwich, but be careful with the amount of spice. The cajun mix is very spicy and salty. If you’re not sure, test your mix on a small sample before.
